Registration Now Open: 71st CIC General Assembly in Doha to Focus on Mediation and Falconry
Doha, Qatar – The International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation (CIC) is honoured to announce its 71st General Assembly, taking place in Doha from April 24–27, 2025. This significant event is hosted under the patronage of the Al Thani family at the prestigious Katara Cultural Village, drawing global leaders together to explore the crucial themes of Mediation, Falconry, and Green Diplomacy as pillars for sustainable conservation.
“Hosting the 71st CIC General Assembly in Doha highlights the vital role of mediation and green diplomacy in conservation,” said Sebastian Winkler, Director General of the CIC. “With the honoured support of the Al Thani family, this assembly will celebrate falconry’s heritage while fostering impactful global partnerships for sustainable conservation.”
Mediation as a Conservation Tool
The CIC General Assembly will showcase mediation as a powerful strategy for addressing conservation conflicts across borders and interests. Through expert-led sessions, the assembly will illustrate how mediation can create balance among diverse stakeholders, reconciling the needs of local communities, wildlife managers, and policymakers. The goal is to drive effective, cooperative conservation measures that have long-term impacts on biodiversity preservation.
Green Diplomacy: Strengthening Global Alliances
Green diplomacy is another core theme, with discussions centred on international cooperation to achieve sustainability goals. In an era of environmental urgency, green diplomacy underscores the importance of cross-border alliances to combat biodiversity loss, protect migratory species, and advocate for sustainable wildlife use. Hosted in Qatar, a country committed to global environmental stewardship, the assembly will bring together representatives from Europe, Africa, and the Americas to advance actionable strategies in international conservation policy.
Falconry: Honouring Cultural Heritage
Falconry, with its ancient roots in Arabian and Qatari culture, will be celebrated throughout the event, emphasising its role as a model of sustainable hunting. Special events and live demonstrations will highlight falconry’s cultural significance, showcasing how heritage practices can coexist with and enhance modern conservation goals.
