Gland, 27 April 2026 — The International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation (CIC) warmly congratulates Ramón Pérez-Gil Salcido, President of FAUNAM and a wildlife conservation expert within the CIC’s Mexican Delegation, on his appointment as Vice-President of the IUCN Council for the 2025–2029 term.
The appointment was confirmed at the inaugural meeting of the newly constituted IUCN Council, held in Gland, Switzerland, on 27 April 2026. It represents a fitting recognition of a career dedicated to evidence-based conservation and sustainable use. Ramón Pérez-Gil Salcido has engaged with IUCN for more than three decades, including service on the governing bodies of the Species Survival Commission and long-standing membership of the Sustainable Use Specialist Group since 1989. He co-founded the Mexico Committee of IUCN Members in 1992 and currently serves as its Chair. He has worked extensively with indigenous and rural communities, governments, and civil society across Mexico and Mesoamerica.
Most recently, Ramón Pérez-Gil Salcido participated as a panellist at the 72nd CIC General Assembly in Vienna, contributing to the Global Wildlife Economy session on 17 April 2026 alongside conservation leaders from across the world.
The CIC is proud to count Ramón Pérez-Gil Salcido among its network of experts and looks forward to continued collaboration in advancing biodiversity conservation through responsible and sustainable wildlife management.
