The CIC joined key discussions in Brussels around the future of Europe’s nature and hunting policies.
At a joint FACE & ELO event at the European Parliament, Thierry de l’Escaille, President of ELO and Vice-President of the CIC, and CIC Director General Arno Wimpffen took part in discussions on the “Stress Test” of the Birds and Habitats Directives. The session was chaired by MEP Juan Ignacio Zoido, with EU Commissioner for Environment Jessika Roswall on the panel.
The stress test will assess how effective and practical the two Directives are. With around 8,500 public responses, 92% of participants consider the Directives very valuable. Results are expected by the end of the year.
The topic continued at the FACE General Assembly, alongside discussions on hunting dogs, restoring small game populations and successful conservation measures.
The session concluded with a panel featuring Arno Wimpffen (CIC), Gray Thornton (WSF) and Dr Chris Comer (SCI Foundation) on priorities and challenges for hunting and conservation on the global agenda.
