Young Opinion
Empowering the Next Generation of Conservation Leaders
CIC's Youth Working Group
In a world grappling with biodiversity loss, the International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation (CIC) is nurturing a powerful force for change through its youth organization, Young Opinion. This dynamic group of young professionals is at the forefront of hunter-led conservation, reshaping the narrative around hunting’s role in environmental stewardship.
Born from a visionary meeting at the CIC’s 48th General Assembly in May 2000, Young Opinion has evolved into a vibrant platform where the next generation of nature conservationists and responsible young hunters unite.
Young Opinion members tackle pressing questions head-on: How can young hunters contribute meaningfully to conservation? How can we make our voices heard in a society that often misunderstands hunting’s role in ecosystem management? The answers lie in their innovative approaches and unwavering dedication to sustainable use practices.
Since its inception, Young Opinion has been a catalyst for change, organizing international events that showcase the power of young hunters in conservation. The first ever GYSU-event took place in 2005, founded by Tomas Landers and Fredrik von Limburg Stirum, and organised by the two gentlemen and a group of young Finnish hunters.
Joining Young Opinion is more than becoming a member; it’s a commitment to action. New recruits begin as “potentials,” immersing themselves in all Young Opinion activities. After a year of active participation, they gain full membership, joining a network of over 1,800 CIC members who are passionate about responsible hunting and protecting nature.
The impact of Young Opinion extends far beyond its membership. By engaging with policymakers, local communities, and skeptics, these young leaders are changing perceptions and demonstrating how regulated hunting can play a crucial role in biodiversity conservation.
Join Young Opinion before you turn 40, and become part of a global movement that’s redefining conservation. Together, we can build a world where sustainable use practices support thriving ecosystems, vibrant communities, and a resilient planet. The time for action is now, and Young Opinion is leading the charge!
