The International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation (CIC) announces an important leadership transition. After five years of dedicated service, Mr. Sebastian Winkler stepped down from his position as Director General of the CIC on 5 September 2025. He will continue to support the organisation until December 2025 as International Policy Advisor, after which he will pursue new career opportunities from Geneva.
During his tenure, Mr. Winkler made significant contributions to the CIC, including the development of the CIC 2030 Strategy and the strengthening of the organisation’s voice in multilateral environmental processes.

As of 8 September 2025, Mr. Arno Wimpffen has assumed the position of Director General. A long-standing member of the CIC team, Mr. Wimpffen brings extensive experience from his years in Brussels and has been actively engaged in CIC programmes and international partnerships. With more than four decades as a hunter and landowner, he combines professional expertise with a strong personal commitment to the CIC’s mission.
With Mr. Wimpffen’s leadership, supported by the CIC’s experienced team around the world, continuity and stability in the organisation’s work is assured. The CIC looks forward to further strengthening its role as a reliable partner for governments, international organisations, and civil society in advancing wildlife conservation through sustainable use.
