New York, September 22, 2025 – The International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation (CIC), as a member of the International Conservation Caucus Foundation (ICCF) network, attended the launch of the Africa Keystone Protected Area Partnership during the United Nations General Assembly.
The event brought together global leaders and offered CIC a valuable opportunity to network with African Heads of State, whose support for sustainable use remains unwavering. Among those present were:
-
H.E. Cyril Ramaphosa, President of the Republic of South Africa
-
H.E. Duma Gideon Boko, President of the Republic of Botswana
-
H.E. Daniel Chapo, President of the Republic of Mozambique
-
H.E. Ndemupelila Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, President of the Republic of Namibia
The Partnership, supported by the Rob Walton Foundation, aims to safeguard 162 essential protected areas across Africa by 2035, building on the African Union Biodiversity Strategy and the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Rob Walton, former chairman of Walmart and a leading global conservation philanthropist, has become instrumental in mobilising large-scale investment for biodiversity and community development.
The launch was also marked by the presence of Senator Chris Coons (D-DE), Congressman August Pfluger (R-TX), and New York City Mayor Eric Adams, reflecting the broad support for this initiative.
Representing CIC was Tristan Breijer, Director of Communications and Public Affairs, who was there to liaise with CIC’s international partners and advocate for sustainable use.
