CIC Joins 9th Ministerial Conference on Forest Europe: Strengthening Partnerships for Sustainable Forest and Wildlife Management
Bonn, Germany, 1-2 October 2024 – The International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation (CIC), represented by Deputy Director-General Arno Wimpffen, actively participated in the 9th Ministerial Conference on Forest Europe. The event brought together ministers from 44 countries, the European Commission, and representatives from 48 observer organisations to discuss the future of Europe’s forests and sustainable forest management.
At the conference, ministers signed the Bonn Ministerial Declaration, reaffirming their commitment to implementing sustainable forest management (SFM) practices. Key discussions focused on strengthening forest resilience against risks such as wildfires, bark beetle infestations, and storms. The ministers also expressed ongoing support for Ukraine in rebuilding its forest sector, which the ongoing conflict has severely impacted.
Arno Wimpffen delivered an intervention on behalf of the CIC, highlighting the importance of collaboration between forest and wildlife management sectors. He emphasised the role of hunters in ensuring wildlife and forest sustainability, offering the CIC’s support in advancing the objectives of Forest Europe.
Additionally, the conference placed special emphasis on enhancing green forest jobs, forest education, and engaging youth in the future of forest management across Europe.
