Culture
As the gap between rural and urban areas continues to widen, we risk losing our connection with the natural world. Hunters understand this connection and its significance not only for conservation but also for culture and society.
The CIC Cultural Division is dedicated to preserving and promoting the deep-rooted traditions and cultural heritage connected with hunting and conservation. Recognising that hunting is not only a tool for sustainable wildlife management but also a vital part of our shared heritage, the division works tirelessly to protect these cultural elements for future generations.
Central to its mission, the Cultural Division engages with organisations like UNESCO to ensure that hunting traditions are recognised as intangible cultural heritage. These efforts are aimed at fostering an understanding of the role that hunting plays in conservation and cultural identity, particularly in rural communities where these traditions have been passed down through generations.
The division also celebrates art and culture by awarding the Hunting in Art Prize, honouring artists who highlight the beauty of nature and the importance of conservation through their work. The Wildlife Photo Prize is another key initiative that encourages hunters to capture the natural world, fostering a connection between wildlife enthusiasts and the broader public.
As modern society becomes more disconnected from nature, the CIC Cultural Division serves as a bridge, promoting awareness and appreciation for the traditions that contribute to the sustainable management of wildlife. By protecting these cultural practices, the CIC ensures they remain relevant in the 21st century, supporting both biodiversity and human well-being.
The Cultural Division also works closely with other CIC divisions, combining cultural insights with scientific and policy frameworks to promote conservation through sustainable use. Whether it’s through artistic endeavours, historical preservation, or collaborations with international bodies, the CIC Cultural Division plays a pivotal role in maintaining the delicate balance between conservation, culture, and community.
