Madrid, Spain, 22 January 2026 – The International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation (CIC) congratulates its former Vice President, Alonso Álvarez de Toledo, on being awarded the Conservation and Sustainability Prize by ClassPaper.
The award was presented during a private luncheon held on 20 January in Madrid, bringing together leading Spanish landowners, conservationists and representatives from the hunting and rural management sectors. The event marked the first edition of ClassPaper’s prize recognising exemplary contributions to the conservation of natural and cultural heritage.
The ceremony took place at the Club Financiero Génova in the Centro Colón building. Among those in attendance were senior figures from Spain’s conservation and hunting community, including Luis de la Peña, Deputy President of the CIC, alongside prominent landowners and sector representatives.
In recognising the Marqués de Valdueza, the organisers highlighted his long-standing commitment to sustainable land stewardship, conservation-led hunting practices and the integration of cultural heritage into modern environmental management. The award was presented by ClassPaper editor Iván Martínez-Cubells.
The CIC notes that this recognition reflects principles central to its international work. Sustainable use, grounded in science, tradition and responsible governance, remains a cornerstone of effective conservation policy, rural resilience and biodiversity management across Europe and beyond.
The CIC welcomes the acknowledgement of leadership that demonstrates how conservation, sustainable land management and hunting traditions can operate together in support of biodiversity, local communities and long-term environmental stewardship.
