It is with profound sadness that the International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation (CIC) mourns the passing of Fernando “Nano” Saiz Luca de Tena, an esteemed and longstanding member of our organisation. Mr. Saiz was one of the most prominent and respected figures in Spain’s hunting community, widely recognized for his visionary contributions to wildlife conservation and sustainable hunting practices.
The CIC joins the Spanish hunting community in expressing immense gratitude for Nano Saiz’s unwavering dedication and significant efforts throughout his distinguished career. His lifelong work elevated Spain’s reputation as a premier international destination for ethical and sustainable hunting, enhancing its status globally.
Fernando Saiz’s pioneering spirit and commitment to excellence led to numerous achievements that continue to impact hunting and conservation positively. He was notably honoured as the first Outstanding International Professional Hunter in Spain and was the inaugural recipient of the CJ McElroy Award by SCI Spain. His visionary leadership and entrepreneurial skills culminated in founding Expo-Cinegética, Spain’s most international hunting fair and one of Europe’s premier hunting events.
Furthermore, Nano Saiz co-founded two prestigious awards: the Culminum Magister Award, promoting ethical and conservation-focused mountain hunting, and the Venatoria Awards, integral to Expo-Cinegética. These recognitions reflect his steadfast commitment to responsible hunting and wildlife stewardship.
His remarkable professional journey was deeply intertwined with his genuine passion for wildlife and the ethical use of natural resources. Nano Saiz was not only an avid international hunter but also a fervent advocate for conservation, uniquely bridging passion and professionalism.
The CIC extends heartfelt condolences to Nano Saiz’s family, especially his beloved wife Koki, during this difficult time. We honour his extraordinary life, his remarkable legacy in sustainable use, and his enduring influence on global hunting and conservation.
