February, 2025 – Ukraine has taken a significant step toward strengthening science-based conservation with the certification of 16 new trophy measures under the CIC Trophy Evaluation System (TES). Conducted in collaboration with the Ukrainian National Delegation to the CIC and GS “Ukrainian Hunters’ Union” (ULR), this marks the first formal certification of trophy evaluators in Ukraine’s history.
Held at SMK “Sokil”, the training was led by Roman Dziedzic (Poland) and provided participants with internationally recognized expertise in trophy measurement and data collection for wildlife monitoring.
The training ensures that Ukrainian specialists can now assess and record game trophies in line with global standards, contributing to improved biodiversity monitoring. Key outcomes include:
- Establishment of the “Trophy Book of Ukraine”, a national register for evaluated hunting trophies.
- Integration of Ukrainian trophy data into the CIC international database, enhancing global wildlife research.
- Appointment of a dedicated expert to oversee Ukraine’s official trophy records.
This initiative was made possible with the support of People’s Deputies Ihor Marchuk and Oleksandr Matushevych, the State Agency of Forestry Resources of Ukraine (DALRU), DP “Lisy Ukrainy”, and private sector partners IBIS Hunting Stores and LLC “Cervus”. Their involvement underscores the crucial role of regulated hunting in conservation and sustainable wildlife management.
The CIC Trophy Evaluation System is critical in tracking game populations, supporting conservation strategies, and ensuring responsible hunting practices. With Ukraine’s newly certified evaluators, the CIC continues to expand its network of professionals committed to evidence-based wildlife management.
