CIC Namibia Head of Delegation Honoured with NAPHA Conservation Award
The International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation (CIC) is honoured to announce that Dr Clemens von Doderer, Head of the CIC Namibia Delegation, has been recognised as the Conservationist of the Year 2024 by the Namibian Professional Hunting Association (NAPHA).
This prestigious award highlights Dr von Doderer’s unwavering dedication to protecting Namibia’s conservation model and promoting sustainable hunting as a key tool for biodiversity conservation. His instrumental leadership in combating the European Trophy Import Ban has safeguarded Namibia’s internationally recognised conservation approach and strengthened global understanding of the role of well-regulated hunting in achieving tangible conservation outcomes.
Since joining the CIC, Dr von Doderer has steadfastly advocated for sustainable use. Elected as Head of the CIC Namibia Delegation in 2020, he has worked tirelessly to elevate Namibia’s conservation success stories on the global stage. Through his efforts, Namibia’s hunting community continues to be a leading example of how conservation, sustainable use, and local benefits are intrinsically connected.
Dr Von Doderer said, “This is a great honour, which I share with several individuals within the CIC whose work has been vital to our success in advancing sustainable conservation.”
The recognition from NAPHA also underscores the importance of collaboration between national associations and global organisations like the CIC. This partnership, built on shared values and united action, has demonstrated the power of collective efforts to shape international policy and uphold multilateral frameworks such as CITES.
The CIC commends Dr von Doderer’s exemplary leadership and commitment to sustainable conservation. His work reflects the CIC’s vision as outlined in its 2030 Strategic Plan: advancing sustainable use as a cornerstone for biodiversity conservation, aligning with global frameworks such as the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF).
