Geneva, 3 May 2025 – During a diplomatic meeting held in Geneva on Saturday, 3 May 2025, His Excellency Wynter Mmolotsi, the newly appointed Minister of Environment & Tourism of the Republic of Botswana, reaffirmed his government’s continued commitment to the sustainable use of wildlife resources.
Minister Mmolotsi, accompanied by Botswana’s delegation, met with CIC Director General Sebastian Winkler and Policy Advisor Stephan Wünderlich from the International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation (CIC). Over the two-hour dialogue, discussions highlighted the importance of balancing consumptive and non-consumptive wildlife use.
The Minister underscored the critical need for community involvement and the reduction of human-animal conflicts, especially those arising from Botswana’s significant elephant population. Further, he expressed the government’s dedication to advancing a robust wildlife economy and enhancing Botswana’s visibility in the European tourism market.
Also covered during the discussions was Botswana’s recent membership in the CIC, underscoring the nation’s ongoing commitment to international cooperation on wildlife conservation and sustainable use practices.
The CIC warmly welcomed the Minister’s reaffirmation of Botswana’s forward-thinking conservation strategies.
