The International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation (CIC) was prominently represented last week at the International Wildlife Congress of the International Union of Game Biologists (IUGB), held in Lillehammer, Norway. With over 500 participants from around the world, the Congress brought together leading researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to share knowledge and innovations in wildlife biology and management.
CIC’s Applied Science Division, led by Professor Klaus Hackländer and Dr. Heidi Krüger, presented insights on wildlife-friendly land management and biodiversity regeneration. Their contribution underlined the importance of integrating science-based solutions into conservation, while highlighting how sustainable land-use practices can support species recovery and rural landscapes.
Alongside its scientific role, the CIC used the Congress to deepen partnerships and strengthen networks with organisations such as the VWJD (Association of German Wildlife Biologists and Wildlife Scientists) and universities, including the BOKU University of Vienna. These exchanges demonstrate CIC’s broader mission to unite science, policy, and culture in addressing today’s biodiversity challenges and advancing the goals of the 2030 Global Biodiversity Framework.
