At the 71st General Assembly in Doha, the International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation (CIC) approved a new membership category: CIC Estate/Company Membership. This addition enables private estates, conservation-focused companies, and other nature-based enterprises to formally join the organisation’s global network dedicated to sustainable wildlife use and biodiversity conservation.
The Estate/Company Membership is open to private estates, landowners, conservation farms, hunting estates, forestry companies, nature-based businesses, rural tourism operators, agricultural enterprises, natural history and other museums. It also includes other land or wildlife-related enterprises that share the CIC’s mission. Members will become part of an international platform that promotes responsible wildlife management while supporting rural livelihoods.
Annual membership is set at €900 and provides access to the CIC’s advocacy work, high-level networking opportunities, and involvement in influential policy discussions. Estate and Company Members will also have the opportunity to share their practical expertise, highlight best practices, and contribute to the development of innovative solutions for conservation.
“By bringing estates and companies directly into our membership, we are recognising their central role in conservation and rural development,” said Sebastian Winkler, CIC Director General. “These organisations are key partners in protecting biodiversity, supporting communities, and ensuring that sustainable use remains a cornerstone of wildlife policy worldwide.”
The introduction of this membership category comes at a time when sustainable use is facing increasing challenges, including restrictive policy initiatives in the United Kingdom, Belgium, France and other countries. By joining, members will help the CIC expand its conservation portfolio, address policy threats, and defend the rights and recognition of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities, as well as the sovereignty of wildlife management.
