Madrid, 8 July 2025 — In a constructive and forward-looking meeting held at the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, senior government officials affirmed their strong support for the work of the International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation (CIC). The discussions focused on deepening institutional cooperation and exploring joint actions to support sustainable wildlife management and international conservation goals.
The CIC was represented by Luis de la Peña Fernández-Nespral, Deputy President, and Juan Del Yerro San Román, Legal Advisor. They were received by a senior delegation from the Ministry, including Ana Rodríguez Castaño, Secretary General for Agrarian Resources and Food Safety; Valentín Almansa de Lara, Director General for Health of Agricultural Production; and Elena Busutil, Director General of Agricultural Productions and Markets.
The meeting centred on aligning efforts around shared priorities, with a particular emphasis on institutional coordination. Among the outcomes was a proposal from the Ministry to appoint a dedicated liaison officer to serve as a permanent point of contact with the CIC. This reflects Spain’s intent to foster long-term, operational collaboration.
The CIC delegation also used the opportunity to extend formal thanks to the Spanish Government and the Spanish Embassy in Doha for their valued support during the recent 71st General Assembly.
“The spirit of the discussion was extremely positive,” said Juan Del Yerro, CIC Legal Advisor. “We now have a strong foundation upon which to build practical cooperation between the CIC and one of Europe’s most important agricultural and conservation authorities.”
The CIC looks forward to translating this renewed momentum into action through coordinated projects, shared policy engagement, and continued dialogue with the Spanish Government.
