Lazise sul Garda, Italy – The seventh Women and Sustainable Hunting (WaSH) Conference, held in February 2024, gathered 51 women from 12 countries, alongside more than 80 participants, to discuss the importance of game meat for healthy eating, education, and promoting a positive image of hunting.
Hosted at EOS – the International Hunting, Fishing & Outdoor Exhibition in Verona- the event was organized by the National Coordination of Women Hunters at the Italian National Hunting Federation, CIC’s Artemis Working Group, and the Pan-European University in Bratislava.
The program featured a visit to the Wildlife Museum Ca’ Erizzo Luca in Bassano del Grappa, expert discussions with key figures such as H.E. Matej Hudec (Permanent Representative of Slovakia to FAO), Renata Briano (Foundazione UNA), Marina Costa (Italian Ministry of Health), Moira and Keith Tidball (Cornell University), and Lisa Ivy (Ivy Safaris, South Africa). A live cooking demonstration by Foundazione UNA highlighted the culinary value of game meat, while a charity raffle supported a local facility for children in need, reflecting WaSH’s ongoing commitment to social responsibility.
“For over a decade, WaSH has united women in conservation and sustainable hunting,” said Soňa Chovanová Supeková, Deputy President of Artemis-CIC. “This year’s event reinforced the importance of education, inclusion, and responsible game management, ensuring that hunting continues to be recognized as a vital tool for conservation.”
The conference concluded with an invitation to WaSH VIII, to be held in Portugal next year, where discussions on women’s leadership in sustainable hunting and conservation will continue.
