The International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation (CIC) and Fundación Artemisan have signed a formal cooperation agreement to produce a landmark scientific publication on the chamois, one of the most ecologically significant mountain species across its range. The agreement was signed by CIC President Luis de la Peña and Fundación Artemisan President José Luis López Schümmer.
The publication, titled The Chamois: Evolution, Ecology and Management, will bring together the most current scientific knowledge on chamois populations across their full range — from the Pyrenees and the Cantabrian Mountains to the Alps, Carpathians, Balkans, Caucasus and Anatolia. It will examine the species’ evolution, ecology, distribution, population dynamics and the wildlife management models applied across different territories, offering a comparative perspective unprecedented in scope.

The work will be published in both English and Spanish, reflecting the international ambition of the project and the commitment of both organisations to ensuring its findings reach the widest possible audience, from the scientific community and wildlife managers to public authorities and universities.
A joint scientific and technical committee, with representatives from both organisations, will oversee the development of the content and coordinate the contributions of specialist researchers from across Europe.
