1 July 2025, Sarajevo – The International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation (CIC) was honoured to participate in the centenary celebrations of the Hunting Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina (Savez lovačkih organizacija u BiH), held on 28 June 2025 at Hotel Hills in Ilidža, Sarajevo.
Established in 1925, the Hunting Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina has a storied history of promoting sustainable wildlife management, biodiversity conservation, and the preservation of local hunting traditions. Over the last century, the association has significantly contributed to the protection of wildlife habitats, species conservation, and education, becoming a respected voice for sustainable hunting practices in the region.
The ceremonial academy marking the 100-year milestone gathered approximately 300 hunters from fifty member associations, alongside prominent guests including representatives from the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, federal and cantonal ministries, academia, and international hunting organisations.
Representing the CIC, its Director of Communications and Public Affairs, Tristan Breijer, addressed the audience alongside David Scallan from FACE, extending warm congratulations on behalf of the CIC. He highlighted the importance of the longstanding collaboration between CIC and the Hunting Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which has been a valued CIC member since 1993. He also emphasized the CIC’s commitment to strengthening this partnership through future joint initiatives and international conservation projects.
The event featured a special commemorative moment when Muhamed Hodžić, President of the Hunting Association, together with Adis Šehić, General Director of BH Pošta, presented a commemorative postage stamp honouring the centennial anniversary. Plaques were also awarded to notable individuals whose contributions have significantly advanced hunting and wildlife conservation across Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The CIC congratulates the Hunting Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina on reaching this significant milestone. We look forward to building on our historical collaboration to support ongoing conservation successes and reinforce sustainable hunting practices that benefit biodiversity and local communities.
The celebrations concluded with a cultural highlight, as attendees enjoyed traditional performances of sevdalinka songs by renowned singer Safet Bučo.
